It
was Benjamin Franklin who proclaimed “The doors of wisdom
are never shut”. His point was that possessing considerable
experience and expertise is no good reason to turn down the
opportunity to gain more.
A typical example is when Robin Sansom, a marketing services
manager and seasoned marketeer of many years standing, heard
from colleagues at Nortel Networks about the benefits of Writing
Machine training courses.
He wasn’t sure how much he would get out of a ‘Better
Writing for Marketing Professionals’ workshop. However,
he booked himself onto the course and it turned out to
be the ideal opportunity for him to deal with some of his
writing
gremlins.
“I went on the course not really
knowing what to expect,” said
Robin. “I’m pleased to say that it was
a day very well spent.
“Like many others in my position,
I’ve done a lot of writing
in my time but never received any formal training.
Learning Writing Machine’s practical approach has been
something of a revelation. I’m now able to plan, structure
and write much faster than before. In fact, if for nothing
else, the course has been invaluable
in helping me overcome my writer’s block – saving
me both time and frustration when I have a tight
deadline.”
Robin also found the carefully balanced
learning environment to be a massive benefit.
“It’s not uncommon for courses
of this sort to be held in lecture theatres and other locations
that have no natural light
or convenient amenities,” comments said
Robin. “This
course was very different. The room Writing Machine
supplied had large windows backing onto the Hampshire
countryside
and the day was well organised with a good mix
of food, breaks, talks and hands-on exercises.
That makes a big
difference.
For me,
it turned learning from a chore into a pleasurable
experience.”
