Writer vacancy
We are currently recruiting for writers. The deadline for applications is Monday 22 November 2004. Please see below for how to apply.

Are you passionate about writing?

We want new writers to join our dedicated in-house writing team producing outstanding marketing copy to strict deadlines.

Writing anything from website copy to brochures and case studies you will follow our own writing training course, learning what makes good marketing copy, how to write to exact word lengths, how to optimise copywriting for search engines, how to liven up your text and a host of other techniques.

What we're looking for

  • You must be able to demonstrate a love of the English language.
  • You must show application, creativity and good grammar in the sample of work you send in, as well as your covering letter and CV. The successful applicant's writing will stand out from the crowd.
  • You will have thought about the kind of writing career you would like to pursue.
  • You will probably have an arts degree at grade 2.1 or above.
  • Preferably you will already have had some experience of real working life, but not necessarily as a writer.
  • We are looking for someone who is commercially aware, who is excited by marketing copy and who just can't stop reading and writing.

What to include in your application

Covering letter

The writing in your covering letter will be judged for style as well as content. We want to know why you are passionate about writing, why you should get the job and what makes you tick. Please try to keep the covering letter to about a page.

Writing sample

We would like you to enclose a writing sample with your application. This can be any subject or style, but no more than three pages long. Remember that we won't be judging the content (although this needs to make sense), but rather the style, language, grammar and overall writing ability. This sample needs to be your writing at its very best. Below are some examples of what you could send, but this is not a complete list. You are welcome to send several short pieces, as long as they don't total more than three pages. Please remember that although we gladly accept writing which is esoteric, such as academic writing or poetry, sometimes a very set style can make it harder for us to judge your writing ability.

  • Review - of arts events / music
  • News piece or press release - for student newspapers / websites
  • Essay / thesis - remember no more than three pages, so you might want to send either the introduction or conclusion
  • Creative writing - short story, poetry, part of novel
  • Writing competition entry - whether you won or not
  • Travel journal / diary entry - nothing too personal!
  • Writing specifically for this application - about your views on something, yourself, or what you did on holiday..

CV

Please try to tailor your CV to our position. Two or three pages at the most is normally enough information, but please ensure that you include grades and subjects for all exam results from A levels onwards.
