Training: Success stories

Many companies have discovered that Writing Machine's structured writing training courses make good business sense. Here are just some of them.

HP Services – Structured Bid Writing

HP is a technology company that operates in more than 170 countries around the world. HP Services chose Writing Machine as its preferred supplier for bid writing and training services following an RFP process which included demonstrating part of our course. Our Structured Bid Writing course has taught a range of HP people who write for bids, including bid managers and systems architects, the skills and confidence needed to effectively and efficiently communicate with their target customer.

To date we have delivered the course to HP eight times.

“I would like to say that yesterday was the best one-day course I have attended in a long time (possibly ever).”

QinetiQ – Structured Bid Writing

QinetiQ provides research, technical advice, technology solutions and services to customers in the core markets of defence and security. As a trial project, Writing Machine initially trained QinetiQ’s Competing To Win team. These are individuals who in a few years’ time will be responsible for managing bids worth hundreds of millions of pounds for the company.
The trial went down so well that we are delivering several courses each year.

“A very clear series of techniques and tricks and rules that I can proactively apply.”

Mitchells & Butlers – Better Business Writing

Mitchells & Butlers is the leading operator of managed pubs and pub restaurants in the UK. Writing Machine recently delivered our Better Business Writing course to 12 of their brand managers, to help them structure and write more focused and compelling reports and communications. Writing Machine is also working with Mitchells & Butlers to develop tone of voice guidelines for a number of the group’s brands.

“My writing will be more concise, quicker and more effective for the audience.”

ITV – Better Business Writing

ITV approached Writing Machine to deliver a writing training course as part of their ‘Training Week’ in May 2010. Since the company had not offered a writing training course before, and in an attempt to get employees engaged and active in training, we delivered a pilot one-day business writing course to six delegates at London Television Centre. It was very successful and more courses are in the pipeline for later this year.

Epson – Structured Briefing bespoke course

Epson is a global leader in imaging products including printers and LCD projectors. Epson product managers commission the company's internal marketing department to write sales and marketing information on their behalf. The company recognised that the copy received never quite matched what the product managers required, so Epson asked Writing Machine to help with some Structured Briefing training. Delivering an on-site course, Writing Machine demonstrated the ways Epson product staff could ensure they knew what to ask for, how to ask for it and how to check that what they received matched the brief.

“I’ll definitely write shorter briefs now and discuss them in person”

Millipore – Effective Marketing Writing

Millipore is a life sciences leader, providing cutting-edge technologies, tools, and services for bioscience research and biopharmaceutical manufacturing. Writing Machine delivered our Effective Marketing Writing course to five of their European marketing communications team based in Strasbourg.

“The course has given me more confidence in working from scratch, and has also shown me how to take more responsibility in writing.”

Munro & Forster – Effective Marketing Writing

Munro & Forster, a company specialising in healthcare, public sector and consumer communications required a training course for its healthcare marketing staff. These employees were tasked with writing a variety of types of work including newsletters, scientific abstracts, web copy, advertorial and bid proposals. Our Effective Marketing Writing training enabled the Munro & Forster attendees to produce clearer, more concise, competitive copy.

“The trainer explained everything very clearly and made us think about why and how to produce good writing material. It also really helped that he spent time individually with everyone to offer useful advice.”

Telstra International – Writing That Sells

Writing Machine initially delivered a pilot Writing That Sells training course to delegates from this leading global provider of managed networked solutions. Staff attended the training at Telstra International’s London headquarters. Delegates included their bid, product and marketing managers, along with Telstra’s Sales Director and Head of Learning and Development. The pilot was so successful that a further four courses have been delivered in quick succession, meaning that Writing Machine has trained over 40 Telstra International clients already. We are in discussions about rolling the training out world-wide.

“After attending this course I will definitely be a more concise writer. I hope my team’s writing will improve with the realisation of the need to develop messaging. Thank you for reinforcing this!”
